EgeGaz Attends 2024 İstanbul Energy Forum
The International Group of LNG Importers (GIIGNL), the leading international organization for those involved in global LNG trade, has selected EgeGaz to host its 2025 technical and commercial group meetings. This marks the first time these prestigious events will be held in Türkiye, underscoring the country’s growing importance in the global LNG trade.
GIIGNL, the premier global organization for LNG importers, brings together leading companies in the LNG trade to discuss key industry issues and best practices. Its technical and commercial working groups meet at least twice a year; in 2025, EgeGaz will host their first meeting in İzmir, Türkiye from May 14-16.
EgeGaz, a subsidiary of the Çolakoğlu Group, first announced its intention to host the 2025 working group meetings to GIIGNL members during the association’s annual general meeting held in Japan on 6 October 2024.
EgeGaz, a member of GIIGNL, is a leading global LNG terminal operator. Its state-of-the-art facility in Aliağa, İzmir, plays a vital role in ensuring Türkiye’s energy security and supply diversification.
İbrahim Akbal, chairman of the EgeGaz AŞ Board of Directors, highlighted the significance of these inaugural meetings in Türkiye: “By bringing together leading LNG companies and terminal operators from across the Americas, Asia, and Europe, these meetings will significantly contribute to Türkiye’s goal of becoming a major energy trading hub.” Mr Akbal continued, saying Türkiye’s advanced natural gas infrastructure, huge market potential, strategic geographic location, and national energy market with a promising future all present significant opportunities for investors. By giving the world’s leading natural gas companies an opportunity to experience the Turkish market firsthand and gain a deeper understanding of our country, these meetings will accelerate the realization of those opportunities.”
